Corpus Christi Police Department's 71st Police Academy Begins

The Corpus Christi Police Department's 71st police academy class, and the first class that Police Chief Floyd Simpson has hired, began on Monday.

Simpson said they are a very diverse group, 300 in all, including 12 women. The cadets are from all over South Texas and even across the country, and Simpson said they are the best of the best.

"The proof is going to be in the pudding," Simpson said. "When the public calls and one of these applicants shows to deliver service, you won't know the difference. I'm extremely confident in our hiring process."

If you would like to follow what these cadets are doing and take a glimpse into their training experiences, you can follow them on social media via Facebook and Twitter.
