A Corpus Christi police officer who helped rescue a family trapped in their burning home two months ago has been named "officer of the year" for the entire region. According to the Chief of Police Floyd Simpson. Lt James Gray received the award from the Combined Law Enforcement Association of Texas.
It was back in August when Lt Gray was patrolling the area near Rodd Field and SPID when he noticed smoke and fire coming from a home.
Gray rushed to the scene and pounded on the door.
He eventually broke down the door and got everyone out of the home.
Lt Gray was just glad he was able to help the family out.
