Council Approves 2014 Bond Language with Some Changes

Council members approved Tuesday the language for the 2014 bond, but with some changes. Proposition 1 asks for $55 million to rebuild sections of 13 city streets considered most in need of repair. Proposition 2 includes $44.2 million for infrastructure and safety improvements.

However, during Tuesday's City Council meeting, Sue Nelson, superintendent of Tuloso-Midway Independent School District, asked council members to add a project to Proposition 2 that would alleviate serious traffic congesting around the packed campus.

Nelson asked Council to consider improvements for Stonewall Street, where she says traffic gets seriously backed up in the morning and afternoon. She also asked the City for legal help to gain right-of-way access and other requirements.

City staff are reportedly planning to work on amending Proposition 2 to include the Tuloso-Midway improvements.
