Council Approves First Reading of Grant for Sam Kane

On its first reading, City Council approved Tuesday a type a grant for the Sam Kane beef processing plant, giving them $3 million in tax breaks over five years.

The grant is contingent on no layoffs and adding more people to Sam Kane's workforce. Lou Waters, the new president and CEO of the company said they plan to add 100 people.

Some Council members proposed annexing the land the plant lays on. Waters said that, on the surface, he didn't see any problem with doing that.
