County Commissioners Discuss Proposal to Demolish Memorial Hospital

County Commissioners went behind closed doors Wednesday to hear an update on the proposal to demolish Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital.

Christus Spohn wants to build a new facility to replace their Memorial Hospital campus and move the trauma center over to the Shoreline Hospital campus.

The Nueces County Hospital District's CEO, Johnny Hipp, outlined some of the major issues to be ironed out, such as psychiatric and indigent care. County Judge Loyd Neal said that district judges have said that psychiatric care has to be provided, and that is one of the top priorities in negotiations over the proposal.

Indigent care is also the other main issue of concern.

There have been two public hearings by Christus Spohn about the fate of their Memorial Hospital campus.
