County Hires Contractor to Tear Down Robstown Show Barn

It has been around for more than 70 years, and served its purpose well, but on Wednesday, Nueces County commissioners sealed its fate.

Built back in the 1940s, the Robstown Show Barn hosted countless events over the years. On Wednesday, commissioners tapped a local contractor to tear it down at a cost of $25,000.

The Show Barn covers more than 97,000 square feet. It was replaced by the $50 million Richard Borchard Fairgrounds. Only the front of the old building will be left standing, since it is still used by local community groups.

Demolition is expected to begin in a couple of weeks.
