CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Police believe the same man was behind a series of three convenience store robberies in a 90 minute time period.
A quick thinking store clerk was actually able to prevent the suspect from taking any cash at the first store he hit. Kiii News Reporter Brian Burns spoke with the manager of that store Monday and came back with the details.
Jennifer Gonzales runs the Snappy's convenience store on South Staples Street. It was just before 3 a.m. Monday when the overnight clerk on break outside the store was approached by a man carrying a gun.
The clerk ran into the store and locked the door before the would-be robber could get his hands on anything. That suspect apparently went on to rob two other convenience stores.
Police said at about 3:20 a.m. the suspect hit a store in the 600 block of Airport Road, and then about an hour later he hit another store in the 6000 block of Ayers.
Investigators say all three stores have described what could be the same man. Each was said to be wearing a hoodie and hat with a bandana covering his face. The man was described as either Hispanic or white with a small build holding a silver handgun.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the stores and hope to recover a picture of the robber.
