CCPD says 36-percent Increase in DWI, DUI Arrests This Year So Far

According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, a total of 628 people were arrested for DWI or DUI between Jan. 1-May 30 of this year, a 36-percent increase from last year's statistics.

Over the same period of time, the CCPD arrested 461 people for intoxicated driving offenses and had a total of 1,206 arrests for intoxicated driving offenses for all of 2013, an all-time record high for this city.

The CCPD released the following numbers as well:

Arrests for Driving While Intoxicated as of May 30, 2014: 622

Arrests for Driving Under the Influence as of May 30, 2014: 6

Suspects consented to give a sample of their breath: 211

Suspects consented to give a sample of their blood: 153

Suspects refused to give a sample of breath or blood and a search warrant was obtained: 252

Suspects refused both blood and breath request, and no evidence was obtained: 6

Felony DWI cases have been filed: 61
Those include - 35 for DWI with two or more prior convictions, 13 for intoxicated assault, 12 for DWI with Child Passenger, 1 for intoxicated manslaughter

Average Breath /Blood results from suspects this year: .16
(.08 is the standard by face value that a person is intoxicated)
