Man arrested for allegedly assaulting woman with vehicle

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police were dispatched just after midnight Sunday to the 6600 block of Mountain Wood Drive in reference to reports of a female that might have been run over by a vehicle.

While officers were en route, they were told that the suspect vehicle was possibly a red Toyota Tundra.

Officers arrived at the scene and located the 42-year-old female victim, who they say had severe facial injuries and was not wearing pants. She was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment.

A witness told police she heard a female scream "Open the door! Open the Door!" She also advised that she saw the red pick up leave the scene at a high rate of speed and return a short time later. When it returned, the vehicle parked down the street with its lights shining on the victim, and then left the area again.

Officers located the suspect vehicle in the 6600 block of South Staples Street. There they contacted the driver, 53-year-old Roy Roberts, and noticed the smell of alcohol. He was detained for DWI as police continued to investigate.

While searching Roberts' vehicle, police found a pair of women's jeans and a pink handbag containing the victim's identification. They noticed fresh blood in the vehicle's wheel well and what they believed to be tissue.

Roberts was arrested and taken to the City Detention Center. There has been no word as to the victim's condition at this time, or what led up to the incident.
