Man arrested for assaulting woman on Staples Street

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police arrested a 31-year-old male Monday night after he allegedly assaulted an 18-year-old girl in the 4000 block of South Staples Street.

Officers were dispatched around 11:30 p.m. and found the 18-year-old victim. She said her and the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Robert Dominguez, had an argument while walking down the street. She said Dominguez grabbed her by the head and threw her to the ground, where she hit her mouth.

Once on the ground, the victim told police that Dominguez began to choke her until she feared she was about to lose consciousness. He finally let go, and she got up and began walking away. The victim told officers that Dominguez was following her when they arrived.

The victim had swelling to her face, a bleeding lip and redness around her neck. Officers arrested Dominguez and transported him to the City Detention Center.
