One Man Believed to Be Responsible for Up to Five Purse Snatchings

Police have narrowed their search to one man who may be responsible for as many as five purse snatchings over the last couple of weeks.

Detectives released surveillance video stills on Wednesday of the man they believe is responsible for the five different thefts. The purse snatchings have all occurred at HEB grocery stores since May 21, and police have released the photos taken of a suspect in at least two of the cases.

Many of the photos were taken at the HEB on Alameda at Glazebrook. Three of the photos showed the suspect at three different locations in the store. The last two photos showed the same man in a green t-shirt, and were taken in another purse snatching at the same store on a different day.

All of the cases involved a shopper being distracted while leaving their purse in their shopping cart.

In one of the cases, the offender was followed out of the store by an employee. The suspect was seen crossing South Alameda Street and ran onto the property of Incarnate Word Academy. He is described as a male between 18-24 years of age with black hair, standing five-foot eight to six-feet tall and weighing about 185 pounds.

Nobody has been injured during any of the purse snatching cases, but police say to be extra careful when shopping, and never leave your purse unattended. If you have any information that can help police, please call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477.
