Man in critical condition following southside shooting

Corpus Christi police were called out to a shooting incident just before noon Thursday in the 7000 block of Copper Mountain Drive.

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - One man was sent to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital in critical condition Thursday after he and three men walked into a southside home and were confronted by gunfire.

It happened just before 11:30 a.m. Thursday in the 7000 block of Copper Mountain Drive.

Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots and seeing men running up and down the street as cars sped off. One vehicle even crashed into a home.

According to police, residents at one home were holding a front-yard barbecue when four men in two different vehicles pulled up and went inside.

"Basically they came into the home without invitation, I would say, and a disturbance ensued," said Commander Kelly Isaacks of the Corpus Christi Police Department. "A gun was brought out and an individual was shot."

The man who was shot ran out of the house, got into a car with another man and drove off, crashing into a neighbor's house across the street.

Homeowner John Duhart said he knew the shooting victim and that the man was having an argument with his daughter inside the home.

"I knew him since he was a kid and that's my daughter in there," Duhart said. "They were having a family crisis back and forth, and I'm just so sad that it had to happen this way but it is what it is."

Neighbors said the street was a chaotic scene as men were running from the home trying to hide or simply get away.

"He ran behind my neighbor's truck to hide and then there were four gunshots right off, real quick, and that's when I called 911," neighbor Michael Shimek said.

"Another white Chrysler had came back around with a few guys and they were looking for him back and forth, trying to find him," neighbor Matthew Gonzalez said. "At that point I went back to my house and as soon as I got back, I heard four gunshots."

Police said three people were detained for questioning. 3News will keep you updated as more information becomes available.
