Three arrested in connection with fatal shooting on 18th Street

CORPUS CHRISTI (KIII NEWS) - Corpus Christi police have arrested three people in connection with this city's latest homicide, which took place around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 1400 block of 18th Street.

According to police, officers were called out to that location after getting reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a 24-year-old male victim with a gunshot to his torso. He was taken to Christus Spohn Shoreline Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

The victim was identified by family and friends as 24-year-old Gilbert Sierra III, an oil field worker who had volunteered to help the Homicide Survivors Supports Group just hours before the shooting.

Witnesses told police that a fight was supposed to take place at the location of the shooting. While there a vehicle drove by slowly,  fired several shots and drove off after striking the victim.

Officers interviewed witnesses and were led to the 6400 block of Everhart Road where they were able to contact a possible suspect. Several people were taken to the police station to be interviewed and officers were able to develop enough probable cause to arrest 22-year-old Tyler Farmer, 18-year-old James Lockhart and 19-year-old Gavin Escoto.

All three were arrested for murder and taken to the City Detention Center. Police said their investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
