Wanted Man Arrested After Leading Police on Foot Chase

A man with outstanding felony arrest warrants was arrested by Corpus Christi police officers just before midnight Thursday, but not before putting up quite a fight.

It was about 11:40 p.m. when patrol officers attempted to make contact with 48-year old Robert Barnard in front of a business on the 5400 block of Leopard Street. When Barnard saw the officers approach, he took off running.

The officers gave chase, and when one of them managed to catch up with him, Barnard turned around and appeared to be ready to fight. The officer deployed his Taser, but Barnard quickly yanked the Taser probes off and continued to flee.

The pursuit continued until the officer once again caught up with Barnard near a fence, where he turned around aggressively. The officer deployed the Taser again, and Barnard was taken down. However, when the officer attempted to grab Barnard, the man broke free and jumped the chain link fence.

The police officer tried to grab Barnard's legs as he went over the fence, but Barnard kicked at him and got away. However, after making it over the fence, Barnard ran into another police officer and was taken into custody.

Barnard was charged with resisting arrest and evading arrest, which are both Class A misdemeanors. He was also found to have outstanding felony arrest warrants.
