DAs Say They Will Not Pursue Criminal Charges Against Local Priest

According to Nueces County District Attorney Mark Skurka, he is not going to pursue criminal charges against Monsignor Michael Heras, a well-known member of the local clergy who has been accused of engaging in improper conduct nearly three decades ago.

Skurka said "no complaint has been made to the police department by the victim as yet, and even if one is made, it appears that we could not prosecute due to the statute of limitations."

The San Patricio County district attorney also announced Tuesday that he too has decided not to pursue charges.

Complaints were brought to the Gregory Police Department last week. They stem from incidents alleged to have happened some 30 years. However, the San Patricio County district attorney said the statute of limitations have expired on those allegations as well.
