David Alvarez Sentenced to Two Years in Jail for Criminally Negligent Homicide

Jurors sentenced 31-year old David Alvarez to two years in state jail, the maximum sentence for charges of criminally negligent homicide, a charge that he was found guilty of Thursday.

It was back in June of 2013 when Alvarez punched and killed 25-year old Aaron Juarez in the parking lot of Whataburger at Cimarron and Saratoga following a dispute over a dinged car door. The punch knocked Juarez to the ground, causing him to hit his head on the concrete. Juarez died from his injuries.

Following sentencing on Friday, Juarez' parents were allowed to speak directly to Alvarez.

"I feel like your reckless actions, your behavior and disregard for others, left us without our only only boy," Aaron Juarez' mother said. "Aaron was 25 years old. That's how old he was. We will never see him get married. We will never see our grandchildren."

"I don't believe you will be saying you're sorry, because every time you came into these hearings, you were smirking and you were laughing," Aaron's father said.
