Day of Caring Gives Chance to Help Fund School Programs

If you have children in school, chances are you have heard how teachers often have to buy supplies for their classrooms due to funding cuts.

On Tuesday, you can lend our educators a helping hand.

Starting Tuesday, Kiii-TV and the Corpus Christi Education Foundation will host an online fundraising event. That money will be used to provide grants to teachers within the CCISD.

The Foundation awards grants to fund materials for creative teaching ideas that are not otherwise able to be funded by the school district. Money used to buy new technology, like Dr. Nancy Vera from Carroll High School did.

"Each of these frames, for example, that we used to interview the participants cost over $100 each. Plus the digital cameras. Plus these little thumb drives that we use, in order to manipulate the software" Vera said. "So all of that costs money, and that's money we don't have in public schools right now."

The money raised throughout the Day of Caring event also provides scholarships for CCISD students and recognizes outstanding teachers each year. If it weren't for the help of the Foundation grants, teachers would have to fund these programs out of their own pockets, or more likely, not provide the programs at all.
