Del Mar College Highlights Careers in Court Reporting

You may not know this, but it happens to be National Court Reporting and Captioning Week.

To mark the occasion, Del Mar College spent Wednesday highlighting all the career possibilities available for those looking for a career in stenography.

"To be a certified court reporter, you have to pass a certain amount of tests. They are in three different things: one's called literary, one's called jury charge and the last one is called testimonial," Del Mar Student Chandler Rich said. "And they all have their different speeds you have to pass them at to become certified."

Also, some court reporting students at Del Mar's East Campus demonstrated some of the techniques they have learned that will help them in their future careers.

The national average salary for a current court reporter is in the $60,000 range. Del Mar College has offered the court reporting program for over 40 years, and 60 students are currently enrolled.
