Del Mar College Hosts Locks of Love Hair Drive

Their mission is to restore a sense of confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss after illness, but Locks of Love cannot do it without your help.

On Friday, dozens of people poured into the Del Mar College cosmetology classroom to go under the scissors in a generous act of giving. A Locks of Love hair donation benefits children under the age of 21 all over the United States and Canada who cannot afford to buy a wig on their own.

To donate, you have to have at least 10 inches of non-chemically treated hair. It takes between six-10 donations to make one hairpiece.

"It's a wonderful contribution to the community, and the students get to see all different types of people," Cosmetology Instructor Sandra Shelton-Flynn said. "And they feel that they are doing a wonderful thing, donating to Locks of Love, working for the public."

If you missed Friday's hair drive and would like to donate to Locks of Love, Del Mar actually takes donations all year long. To make an appointment, call the Del Mar College cosmetology program at 361-698-1799.
