Dr. Hector P. Garcia's 100th Birthday Celebrated at City Hall

Civil rights leader Hector P. Garcia's 100th birthday was celebrated in the City Council chambers of City Hall Tuesday.

Several members of the Garcia family, including his daughter, Cecilia Garcia Akers, were present for the proclamation honoring the civil rights leader.

"I don't know what to say, but I want to thank everybody for being here and for supporting our foundation that we started last year," Akers said. "And our goal is to have that library wing expansion to house all of his documents and photographs in a wing named the Hector P. Garcia Memorial Wing at A&M."

The proclamation at City Hall was one of many ceremonies and events going on this week to honor Hector P. Garcia.
