Driver Detained After High-Speed Chase, Collision in Orange Grove

A woman who led a Jim Wells County constable on a high-speed chase through Orange Grove Thursday morning is now in police custody.

It was around 8:30 a.m. when the constable spotted a black BMW driving on the wrong side of Highway 359 and began pursuit. The BMW reached speeds of up to 90 miles per hour, and eventually was involved in a head-on collision in front of Orange Grove High School.

After the collision the driver of the BMW, a female in her 30's, bailed out of her vehicle and ran into a nearby neighborhood. Authorities detained her a short time later.

A search of the woman's vehicle turned up a loaded handgun, drug paraphernalia and fake IDs.

The woman was taken to the hospital to be checked out, and upon her release, she will be booked into the Jim Wells County Jail.
