Driver, Suspected Illegal Immigrants Bail Out of Stolen SUV

The search is underway for a suspect who allegedly forced a man out of his sport utility vehicle and took off, leaving the driver on the side of the road in Kenedy County.

The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Deputies in Kleberg County were notified to be on the lookout for the stolen SUV, and after spotting it, they tried to pull the vehicle over along Highway 77. However, the suspect took off and ended up ditching the vehicle at Highway 77 and County Road 4 near Bishop.

The Sheriff's Office said the driver was not the only one who bailed out of the vehicle. So did several others, who they suspect were illegal immigrants.

"The rain does not slow them down," said Captain J.D. Longoria of the Kleberg County Sheriff's Office. "As a matter of fact, they use the rain to their advantage, thinking law enforcement won't conduct business as usual. It's no different."

With the help of the U.S. Border Patrol, three of the people who ran from the SUV were eventually caught. However, the driver remains on the loose.
