A Corpus Christi man is recovering from hypothermia after being trapped in a drainage ditch for multiple hours. He was rescued around midnight from his car at the end of Comal St. near I-37 and Lantana.
Police say neighbors heard the man yelling and called 911. Investigators say the driver was attempting to turn around and accidentally backed into the ditch. The vehicle then turned on its side, trapping the man. He told first responders he had been sitting in the waste deep water for several hours.
The victim was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say alcohol was not a factor.
