A vehicle being chased by the U.S. Border Patrol crashed Tuesday morning near the Brooks County Sheriff's Office in Falfurrias, resulting in several people being injured.
One victim was initially presumed dead by Brooks County Sheriff's officials, but was still breathing and was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Seven others were injured in the accident, as well.
According to the Brooks County Sheriff's Office, a red truck containing 17 individuals believed to be illegal immigrants was being pursued by Border Patrol agents when the driver lost control of the vehicle. A witness said the vehicle rolled over twice, took out a sign and landed on top of a tree.
ICE is currently handling an investigation into the accident.
