Federal Judge Denies Request to Park Recalled GM Cars

At the federal courthouse Thursday, District Judge Nelva Gonzalez Ramos delivered a legal victory to General Motors in connection with an ongoing recall of small GM cars.

Some 2.6-million GM vehicles are known to have faulty ignition switches. The problem is known to be responsible for at least 13 deaths nationwide.

Local Attorney Bob Hilliard, who represents a number of affected families around the country, filed a motion before Judge Ramos asking her to issue a "park it now" order, essentially forcing all the recalled vehicles off the road immediately.

However, in her ruling Thursday, Ramos denied the motion, essentially saying she doesn't have the authority to do that, and that it's the responsibility of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, or NHTSA.

Hilliard said Thursday that GM's legal victor will wind up costing lives.
