Finalist for CCISD Superintendent Speaks at Morning Conference

The Corpus Christi Independent School District is down to one finalist for the new superintendent -- Dr. Roland Hernandez, who is currently the district's chief administrative officer and assistant superintendent.

Carol Scott, president of the CCISD board, said they looked at 49 applications and resumes, giving 12 of those an in-depth look. At the end of that process, the board decided that Dr. Hernandez was the only candidate they felt they wanted to come back for a second interview.

On Friday, Hernandez spoke at a morning news conference and said that he has degrees from Texas State University and received his PhD from University of Texas in Austin. He has been with the district since the summer of 2010 and said that, if he is selected to become the superintendent, it would not be a job he would be blindly walking into.

Kiii News Reporter Brian Burns looked into the district's hiring process and came back with more details.
