Firefighters Respond to Blaze at Ocean Drive Motel

Traffic on Ocean Drive was backed up for a while after a fire broke out at a nearby motel.

The blaze broke out just before 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Summer Place Motel on the 4300 block of Ocean Drive. When crews arrived on the scene, smoke was coming from one of the rooms.

Firefighters had to tear part of the roof off to get to the fire.

"There is going to be some fire damage, and some fire control damage, because we had to open everything up to check for an extension," said Captain James Brown of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

Investigators said the fire was contained to the attic of the motel. The cause of the fire is unknown at the time.
