Firefighters Respond to House Fire on Crews Street

Firefighters jumped into action Friday morning, responding to a blaze that broke out just before 8:30 a.m. at the 2500 block of Crews Street, near Port and Baldwin.

When fire crews arrived on scene, they observed heavy smoke coming from the back bedroom. The homeowner was inside at the time, and said that she did not know her house was on fire.

"Something is burning," homeowner Lidia Adame said. "Well, it's my house, and I didn't even know it. I opened the door and it hit me, right to my face."

"There was extensive fire damage to a back bedroom, and minor damage to another bedroom in the back, but the fire was contained to just the backside of the house," said Battalion Chief David Saenz of the Corpus Christi Fire Department.

Luckily, everyone was okay and the only damage was to the bedroom. Adame said she will probably stay at a relative's house.
