First Annual Wreath Laying Event at Local Veterans Cemetery

Coastal Bend veterans took part in Wreaths Across America, a somber national wreath-laying ceremony early Saturday morning.

More than 500 people gathered at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery just after 11 a.m. for their first annual laying of the wreaths ceremony. A wreath was placed at the base of each military branch to honor those who laid their lives down for our freedom.

"I'm very proud of the schools that got together and raised money to make sure that every stone had a reef for anyone that was buried here," said Christine Magill, whose father was buried in that cemetery.

The wreaths were escorted to the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery by the Patriot Guard Riders.
