First Reading Approved for Mary Rhodes Pipeline Phase 2

On first reading Tuesday, City Council approved a contract for construction of the Mary Rhodes Pipeline Phase 2.

Council members approved the contract for more than $84 million with Garney Companies, Inc. out of Kansas City, Missouri. Assistant City Manager Gus Gonzalez said that next week's expected approval of the contract is a long awaited start for construction.

"We're going to actually start building that pipeline from the Colorado River at Bay City, and plumbing it over to Lake Texana and putting it into our west delivery system," Gonzalez said. "So by June of 2015, we would have augmented our water supply by that amount."

Gonzalez said actual construction is expected within 30 days from final approval.
