Four Killed, Five Injured in Refugio County Accident

Four people were killed and five more are recovering from injuries after a major accident Monday on Highway 35, six miles south of Tivoli in Refugio County.

It was just before 5:30 p.m. when police say a pickup traveling south on Highway 35 veered into the opposite lane of traffic and collided with an oncoming vehicle, killing all four passengers inside. The victims were identified as 26-year old Rosa Linda Alvarado of Kyle, Texas; 27-year old Becelia Gutierrez of Austin; seven-year old Karly Rose Chavez of Kyle, Texas; and four-year old Riyan Vallejo of Austin.

The five passengers in the pickup were transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital, one via HALO Flight. The driver of the pickup truck is said to be in stable condition.

Police are still investigating what caused the pickup to veer into oncoming traffic.
