Friends Rallying Behind Young Woman Injured In Boating Accident

A young woman who was involved in a weekend boating accident is now recovering in the hospital. The accident happened at around 8 p.m. Sunday near Mile Marker 37 at the Intercoastal Waterway.

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, the boat was leaving the ski basin and was in the Intercoastal Waterway, headed back to a boat ramp at Mile Marker 37. That's when 24-year old Rebecca Chambers fell off the front of the boat and was run over by it.

Investigators said that passengers on the boat immediately pulled her out of the water and tried their best to stabilize her until emergency crews arrived. Chambers' leg was severed below the knee.

Chambers was rushed to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital and, as of Monday evening, was said to be in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The driver of the boat did pass a sobriety test and did not receive a citation. Texas Parks and Wildlife is still investigating the incident.
