Funeral for Firefighter Who Responded to West, Texas Explosion

WEST, Texas (Kiii News) - It has been a week since the massive explosion at a fertilizer plant in West, Texas, which killed 14 and injuring more than 200. That community is finally beginning to recover.

Our sister station in Waco, KCEN, sent footage of a funeral service held Wednesday for one of the victims in that fatal explosion, off-duty Dallas Fire and Rescue Captain Kenny Harris.

Camera crews also got an up close look at the damage caused by that explosion. The blast left a nearly 100-foot wide and 10-foot deep crater where the fertilizer plant once stood.

The blast destroyed dozens of homes and damaged several buildings in the small Central Texas town. Many questions still remain. How did a fire start in a facility shut down to workers for the day? And what sparked the massive explosion?

So far, investigators determined that natural causes did not ignite the fire.

In a statement made Wednesday evening, President Obama ordered all flags to be at half-staff in memory of the victims of the West explosion.
