Golfers Gather for Seventh Annual Bhagat Memorial Tournament

Dozens of people gathered in Portland, taking to the links against diabetes Friday afternoon.

The seventh annual Bhagat Memorial Golf Tournament was taking place. Organizers say the tournament is a way to celebrate the life of Vishal Bhagat and carry forward his mission of fighting juvenile diabetes.

The tournament was named after Bhagat, who drowned in Lake Corpus Christi near Mathis. Bhagat had became an advocate for diabetes education before his death.

"Just in general, we are here for a good cause. Get it out there and raise some money," title sponsor Frank Butler said. "We are just here to have a good time."

The golf tournament will continue all weekend.
