Golfers Participate in 16th Annual People Against Poverty Tournament

It may not have been the most ideal day to hit the golf course Friday, but despite the rains, some did just that, and all for a good cause.

"This is our 16th annual People Against Poverty Golf Tournament," said Joe A. Martinez, CEO of the Nueces County Community Action Agency. "All of our programs are for the low-income community. They're not a handout program. They have to qualify for our services."

The Northshore Country Club played host to the tournament. Money raised will go to the Nueces County Community Action Agency, which helps fund such programs as Head Start and Affordable Housing.

16 teams in all took part in Friday's tournament, including one from here at Kiii-TV, with our own Jane Monreal as the team captain.
