HazMat Crews Respond to Natural Gas Leak on Violet Road

The Annaville Fire Department and Corpus Christi Police Department HazMat crews responded to a natural gas leak on Violet Road early Tuesday morning.

A combination of natural gas and Mercaptan, a masking agent meant to give natural gas a noticeable scent, was shooting up about 60 feet into the air from a blue pipe around every 45 minutes.

Police blocked off a nearly two-mile stretch of the road between Highway 44 and I-37.

Neighbors reported hearing loud bangs that sounded like shotguns going off overnight.

A company by the name of Enterprise Products showed up around two hours after emergency crews and shut off the pressure valve.
