Health Department Explains How Mosquito Traps Work

Have you ever wondered how the City collects those mosquito traps?

The City's Vector Control said they have 27 automated traps set around the city, and once a week, the mosquitos are collected and sent off to Austin for testing to see if they are positive for the West Nile virus.

"This is how the machine works," said Jose Pantoja with the Health Department. "In here, it is a fan, and the fan will suck them up, into the net, and sit there for the whole night for us to pick up."

Those traps spread out from the Island to Calallen.
