Heart Gallery Event Urges People to Adopt Older Kids

Hundreds of your neighbors got an up close and personal look at the adoption process on Thursday night, in a unique event.

It was the eighth annual Heart Gallery at the Garcia Arts Center on Agnes.

It is a partnership between Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and Child Protective Services. College students take pictures of kids who are up for adoption. The hope is that the photos will get more people to consider adopting older kids.

On Thursday night, one family did just that.

"We saw Martin's picture and we fell in love, and then we started the whole adoption process," said Ursula Benitez.

In South Texas, there are more than 300 children up for adoption, and more than 90 are right here in Nueces County.
