Many have set up their Christmas tree this weekend, and if you have a real tree, it can be a fire hazard. Captain James Brown of the Corpus Christi Fire Department shared several holiday safety tips.
If you have a real tree, make sure it has plenty of water in the container. A lot of people do not realize that the tree absorbs a lot of water. It is best to check it everyday.
Also, when you purchase a tree, cut off an inch from the trunk before putting the tree up.
When you are setting up your Christmas lights, make sure they are in working condition. Also be cautious with fireplaces. Use only approved burning material for the fire, and do not overload power outlets.
