CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Jose Cisnero gave up just one run and five hits in a complete-game effort as Corpus Christi held off Frisco 3-1 Sunday evening before 5,936.
The Hooks improved to 20-9 in Texas League second-half games and 57-42 overall.
The RoughRiders are 11-18 and 52-47.
Aided by a caught stealing in the fourth and a double play in the seventh, Cisnero (9-6) faced the minimum through seven. Things turned tricky during the eighth when Mike Olt belted a lead-off double and came around on Chris McGuiness' RBI single. Cisnero avoided additional woes by striking out Jared Hoying, retiring Jared Prince on a fly to left and inducing a bounce out off the bat of Val Majewski.
The lone blemish on Cisnero's line through 6 1/3 was a fourth-inning bunt single by Engel Beltre. Leury Garcia lined a single to left for the visitors' second hit.
Cisnero struck out seven and 74 of his 104 pitches were strikes. He's won five consecutive decisions and is 7-1 over his last 11 starts with 71 K's against 20 walks.
The Hooks welcomed reliever Zach Osborne (1-1) with two runs in a three-hit fourth. Jose Martinez opened the door by doubling to left and scored on Kody Hinze's two-base hit the same direction. Adam Bailey's sacrifice fly drove home Jacob Goebbert, aboard after his second single of the evening.
Goebbert's batting average over the last dozen games is .444.
Drew Muren's lead-off double, an Andy Simunic single and Martinez' sacrifice fly produced a Hooks insurance run off Ryan Rodebaugh in the eighth.
Tim Murphy made a spot start for the RoughRiders and worked three scoreless frames. He allowed two hits, walked one and caught two Hooks looking. Miguel De Los Santos provided 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.
Ross Seaton (6-6) makes his 20th start of the season for Corpus Christi Monday at 7:05. The RoughRiders counter with Jake Brigham (4-5). The first 1,500 fans 12-and-under get a Hooks Toothbrush Holder from Star Orthodontics.
