Hooks' Offense Explodes with Biggio in Attendance

CORPUS CHRISTI (CC Hooks) - Nick Tropeano pitched seven innings of one-run, four-hit ball and Erik Castro and Max Stassi drove in three runs each to drive Corpus Christi over Frisco 9-1 before 5,318 Saturday night at Whataburger Field.

Tropeano (4-7) walked just one and fanned five, posting a pitch count of 93 (62 strikes).

Castro's two-out, two-run double to left gave the Hooks a first-inning lead against Nick McBride. Castro's opposite-field shot plated Drew Muren (lead-off walk) and Jonathan Meyer (two-out single).

Corpus Christi (15-13; 57-41) pounced on McBride for four more two innings later. The first four batters combined for three singles and a double and each ultimately scored. Meyer, Castro, Stassi and Enrique Hernandez recorded RBIs; Preston Tucker had the two-base hit, a screamer into the right-field corner.

That was all for McBride (1-6), who was peppered for six hits. He walked three.

His successor, Phil Klein, gave up three in the fifth. Castro reached on an error to begin the sequence and an out later Stassi jacked his ninth homer of the season on a 3-1 offering. Jiovanni Mier's two-out single and Muren's triple to right ran the score to 9-0.

Frisco (12-17; 51-48) finally broke through against Tropeano during the seventh by piecing together three one-out singles. Hanser Alberto's bouncer up the middle scored Chih-Hsien Chiang.

Bobby Doran (8-2) starts for Corpus Christi Sunday at 6:05 against Kevin Pucetas (9-7). The first 1,500 kids 12-and-under receive a Hooks Kids Backpack from Coca-Cola. It's also H-E-B Kids Day, so all children run the bases postgame.
