Injured Firefighter Continues to Receive Treatment

Battalion Chief J.D. Johnson, who was injured in a Robstown fire on Aug. 9, continues to recover in the San Antonio Military Medical Center's burn unit.

Johnson, an 18-year veteran of the Corpus Christi Fire Department, received third-degree burns to his hands and second-degree burns to his face and chest. It all happened when the roof of a burning building collapsed, forcing a 15-foot blast of flames to escape the building.

Johnson's family has reportedly been with him in San Antonio as he receives treatment. He is expected to be in the hospital for another two or three weeks.

Since sustaining his injuries, Johnson has received an outpouring of support from the community. Firefighters from the Coastal Bend and around the state have been pitching in to help pay for the family's lodging in meals.

If you would like to help the Johnson family during their time of need, there is an account set up for contributions at the City Employee's Credit Union. It is listed as the J.D. Johnson Relief Fund, account #1594456.

The Firefighters Association is also collecting contributions at its offices located at 6014 Ayers, 78415, ATTN. J.D. Johnson.
