Islanders fall to Lions Saturday

CORPUS CHRISTI (Islanders Athletics) - The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi baseball team was unable to get the offense going on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to Southeastern Louisiana in Southland Conference play. A day after falling 13-11 to the Lions in 12 innings, the Islanders struggled to regain the offensive rhythm from the night before.

The team falls to 9-10 overall, while sliding to 2-3 in league play. The Lions moved to 15-5 overall, 3-2 in Southland games. Tim Keller suffered the loss for the Islanders, tossing 6.2 innings while allow nine hits, but just three runs, only one of which was earned. The righty allowed two walks while striking out two. Jordan Hymel picked up the win for SELA, pitching 7.2 innings, giving up one run on six hits with two walks and 7 K's.

For Texas A&M – Corpus Christi, Omar Garcia had two hits on the day, while Jeramie Marek, Drew Vest, Kyle Danford and Marc Damon had one each.

In the first inning, the Islanders got things started with a Drew Vest infield single, followed by an Eric Weiss walk to put runners on first and second. Kyle Danford came through with an RBI single to plate Vest and give his team a 1-0 lead.

The Lions scored one in the top of the second to even the score, and added another pair, both unearned, in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead over the Islanders.

That would be all SELA would need, as Hymel baffled the home team bats for most of the day. The Islanders were able to threaten in the eighth inning, getting runners to second and third, but Jordan Hills came on to get out of the jam. Hills earned the save in relief for the Lions.

The two teams will play a third-and-final game on Sunday afternoon, this time with a 1 p.m. first pitch at Chapman Field. Live stats and video for the game will be available by visiting
