Islanders Ready For Rematch in SLC Baseball Tourney

Corpus Christi (kiii sports) - The Texas A&M – Corpus Christi Baseball team will start play in the Southland Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon, taking on the Central Arkansas Bears in the opening round at 12 p.m. at Constellation Field, the home of the Sugar Land Skeeters.

The Islanders (32-22) finished in second place of the Southland Conference, and will take on the seventh-seeded Bears in the second game of the day at the tournament, with Stephen F. Austin and Oral Roberts starting the day in the 9 a.m. game. The winners of the first two games will meet at 12 p.m. on Thursday, with the losers facing elimination in a game against one another at 9 a.m. on day two of the tournament.

First Team All-Southland members Eric Weiss, Jonathan Gonzales and Brad Porras will lead the team into the game, with the trio comprising the largest first team contingent in Islanders history. Third team members Cody Stephens, Trevor Foss and Trevor Belicek, as well as honorable mentions Jordan Lee and Brandon Tierney, joined them in representing the program in the postseason honors.

Foss will get the start against UCA, with the senior looking for redemption from his earlier loss this season against the Bears. He was mired in a midseason slump and suffered the second of three straight losses before getting back on track. Since the third loss in a row, Foss has picked up three straight wins to help the Islanders into second place.

Caleb McClanahan will get the start against Foss, with the UCA senior earning First Team All-Southland honors after producing a 9-5 record with 2.18 ERA over the course of the season.

Fellow first team member Forrestt Allday leads the offense, with the outfielder finishing the regular season batting .383 with 34 RBI. Catcher Michael Marietta led the entire Southland Conference with 49 RBI, and was second on the team with a .311 batting average.
