CORPUS CHRISTI (Kiii Sports) - Hopes are high out on the island this season for the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi baseball and softball programs, both of which are underway preparing for the season.
Scott Malone's baseball bunch kicked off practice Friday afternoon with the season set to begin three weeks from then against UT-Pan American. The Islanders are coming off back to back appearances in the Southland Conference Tournament with at least one win in each, something Coach Malone hopes to take even further this season.
Malone feels the A&M-Corpus Christi's rotation will be a strength despite the loss of Daniel Minor to the Major League Baseball draft. Former Calallen Wildcat Adam Hoelscher and potential MLB draftee Trevor Foss look to anchor the rotation this year.
The softball team started practice earlier in the week under second year Head Coach Stephanie Hughes. The Islanders were tabbed to finish fourth in the Southland Conference, a spot Hughes and the captains feel is a bit low.
A&M-Corpus Christi kicks off its season February 8th with a big game against the University of Texas that will be shown on the Longhorn Network.
