James Ragan Dies Following Battle With Cancer

Sad news to report as we have learned James Ragan has passed away following a long battle with bone cancer. Ragan was diagnosed with the disease at 13 years old.

3News first introduced you to Ragan back in 2007 following his diagnosis of Osteosarcoma also known a bone cancer. As he began his fight, classmates at Baker Middle School began selling t-shirts bearing his name. They not only wanted to boost his spirits at the time, but raise money to find a cure for cancer.

Shortly after his diagnosis, Ragan started up a non-profit group aimed at helping children suffering from cancer. He called the organization Triumph Over Kid Cancer. Since then, Ragan has helped to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for his cause.

Every year, he hosted a golf tournament and toga party at the Corpus Christi Country Club, also raising money to fight cancer. Most recently, in October of 2013, Ragan was at Driscoll Children's Hospital to donate $30,000 that he raise during the 2013 golf tournament.

Ragan was a junior at Rice University in Houston and a member of the Rice Owls golf team. Ragan was 20 years old.
