Judge Gives Scathing Review of State's Handling of Sanders Trial

Jurors were expected to hear closing arguments Thursday in the trial of two parents accused of injuring three of their children, but before that could take place, the judge overseeing the trial gave a scathing review of how the prosecution handled evidence.

"The question becomes whether or not there is bad faith on the part of the state," said 105th District Court Judge Angelica Hernandez. "The state failure to disclose statements was attributed to a hectic week before trial."

Judge Hernandez said she felt that the state decided that her orders no longer apply, adding that the state acted in bad faith by not disclosing photos on a hard drive.

The trial is expected to resume at 9 a.m. Friday.
