Judge Rules on Temporary Restraining Order Against Firefighters Union

Contract talks between the City and the Corpus Christi Firefighters Association will not continue after a hearing held Thursday to discuss a temporary restraining order filed by City against the Union.

The issue involves the Corpus Christi Fire Department's "Become a Hero" campaign, which the City says violates their collective bargaining agreement with the Union and represents unfair public campaigning.

However, County Court at Law Judge James Kleberg ruled that the Union must take down its Website promoting the "Become a Hero" campaign, but their billboards can remain.

In five days, the Union and the City can either extend collective bargaining talks or agree to turn contract negotiation over to an arbitrator.
