Kristene Chapa Undergoing Rehabilitation in Houston Hospital

It has been nearly two years since two young girls were shot in a Portland city park. One of them died, and the other was seriously injured and is still recovering.

The shooting happened in June of 2012 at Violet Andrews Park. 19-year old Mollie Olgin was killed, and 18-year old Kristene Chapa was seriously injured. Police say they have a person of interest in the case, but there has still been no arrest.

Evidence is still being processed at a crime lab in Austin.

In the meantime, Chapa continues to undergo intensive rehabilitation. She has made some remarkable progress and is set to travel to Houston's TIRR Memorial Hospital for continued rehabilitation.

Because the hospital is out of the area, insurance will not be covering the treatments, so her family has set up a special account to help raise some much needed money.

Kristene will be going through intensive therapy to help her regain mobility to the left side of her body. She said she has been writing a book about her ordeal, from the shooting to her remarkable recovery. She has agreed to share more about the book once it comes out.
