One marine has been nominated for a prestigious award -- Navy Spouse of the Year.
Alyssa Johnson is working to become a Marine Corps Aviator.
Johnson has created a pet care business here serving military men and women who are deployed.
She says she came up with the concept when both she and her husband were sent overseas. The non-profit is called Dogs on Deployment.
"I have been blessed in helping them get through difficult time because of military," Johnson said. "When they don't know what to do with their dogs because of a military commitment."
Johnson will represent our region at the National Navy Spouse of the Year awards on February 21st.
If she wins, she will be considered for Military Spouse of the Year.
